Brian Flynn serves as the Leader of the Healthcare Business Transformation practice. Mr. Flynn has more than 30 years of experience providing financial, operational and strategic advisory services to healthcare organizations.
Mr. Flynn has extensive experience in value creation and margin improvement for hospitals, health systems, academic medical centers, private equity firms/portfolio companies, for-profit medical groups and healthcare IT vendors. He has spent much of his career implementing solutions in revenue cycle, labor/productivity, patient progression, supply chain, perioperative, clinical effectiveness, clinical documentation, strategic positions and services lines, integration, platform consolidation and physician practice operations.
Mr. Flynn has successfully partnered with clients across the healthcare service and delivery space to implement performance improvement and operational excellence throughout the country. Of note, he partnered with a national network of eye care centers and led them through an enterprise revenue cycle management assessment and subsequent execution of transformation initiatives with a mid-point benefit estimate representing $80 million over five years. He also collaborated with leadership at a national physician-led medical group to deliver cash collections above projections of $40 million on time and within project budget. Additionally, he has led a global virtual health services provider in identifying and integrating over $500 million of cost reductions into the company’s strategic three-year plan, enabling optimization of member care capabilities and a pathway to corporate profitability.
Prior to working at FTI Consulting, Mr. Flynn had more than 19 years of advisory services experience, including three years as a partner in Ernst & Young’s (“EY”) healthcare practice. At EY, he was a principal, national performance optimization leader and northeast healthcare advisory market lead.
In addition to his advisory experience, Mr. Flynn served as corporate vice president of revenue cycle operations at Continuum Health Partners in New York, now part of Mt. Sinai, for five years. He was responsible for managing the revenue cycle processes for Continuum’s five hospitals, including Beth Israel Medical Center, St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital and Long Island College Hospital. Continuum’s hospitals totaled approximately 2,500 beds and had revenues exceeding $2 billion. While there, he was also responsible for managing the Revenue Cycle for Continuum’s more than 400 faculty practice physicians in over 40 medical specialties. Mr. Flynn holds a B.S. in Health Management from Quinnipiac College.
