About Mark
Mark Chertok directs the Investment Administration & Reporting group, which provides recurring accounting, fund administration and financial reporting services to mortgage and equity REITs, real estate private equity and real estate debt funds and other investment vehicles. With more than 35 years of experience within the domestic and international real estate and financial services industries, Mr. Chertok is widely regarded for his expertise in SEC and financial reporting, crisis management, forensic investigations, real estate finance, preparing REITs for IPOs and transaction due diligence.
A well-known expert in the real estate industry, Mr. Chertok has extensive experience working out complex defaulted real estate loans. Most recently, he served as interim chief financial officer for two public real estate companies. Additionally, Mr. Chertok assists clients with the preparation of SEC filings and provides technical and interpretative accounting guidance.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, he worked as an independent financial consultant to such companies as Petra Capital, Ruben Companies, Ladder Capital Finance (interim CFO) and MUUS Asset Management (CFO). Before that, he served as the executive vice president and CFO for the El-Ad Group in New York, a fully-integrated real estate firm that acquires, redevelops, converts, develops and owns primarily residential properties for sale or rent in urban, high-density markets throughout the United States and Canada.
Mr. Chertok was also the first CFO of both NorthStar Realty Finance Corp., a mortgage REIT, and NorthStar Capital Investment Corp., where he led its successful IPO in 2004. Prior to NorthStar, he was the CFO and a principal of Emmes & Company LLC, an opportunistic real estate investment firm. Before Emmes, Mr. Chertok was a partner at two public accounting firms, Margolin, Winer & Evens LLP and Laventhol & Horwath, where he was involved in all aspects of client service including accounting, tax and management advisory services, with a focus on the real estate industry.
