About Richard
Richard Grint is a leading global expert in the prevention, detection, and investigation of financial crime and leads the anti-financial crime work in EMEA.
Richard has led over 450 financial crime related assignments, spanning compliance assessments, regulator intermediation, monitorships, customer onboarding/KYC automation, transaction monitoring optimisation, forensic investigations and more. Richard has led assignments in over 29 countries across Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, and his expertise spans money laundering, fraud, bribery & corruption, terrorist financing, market abuse, sanctions, tax evasion and the proliferation of prohibited weapons. His clients include law enforcement, regulators and many of the world’s largest FS institutions.
Richard works extensively on behalf of geographies and supranational bodies, where he has worked to shape the future of international AML/CFT regulation. He also lectures on economic crime across multiple Tier 1 global universities.
Richard’s recent work has included leading the design and build of one of the largest data driven FIUs for a major European Geography, acting as the named monitor for one of Europe’s largest banks, and leading the design/build of automated KYC for a number of major global banks.
Relevant Experience:
- Led the design and build of one of the largest data-driven Financial Intelligence Units globally for a major European state
- Appointed as monitor for one of Europe’s largest banks on behalf of regulators and law enforcement across multiple jurisdictions
- Led the creation of the world’s first trade monitoring system built on a bank-internal blockchain system
- Led 14 Skilled Person or equivalent reviews for multiple regulators, including acting as the named Skilled Person on behalf of the UK FCA for one of the UK’s largest banks
- Led the delivery of fully or partially automated customer onboarding and KYC for nine major global banks – including end-to-end automated onboarding for the most complex entity clients
- Led seven FATF mutual evaluation responses on behalf of governments around the world
- Led the end-to-end redesign of AML/CFT supervision for three major European regulators, including supervisory mechanisms, inspection approaches, and becoming more data-driven in approaches to regulation
- Led the UK and Danish governments’ studies into new technologies in AML/CFT, interviewing 200+ FS institutions and 300+ technology providers to assess promising technologies in preventing, detecting and investigating financial crime
- Acted as MLRO for two major European banks on a secondment basis
